The larger the list that you can build, for your autoresponder service, the more potential customers you can create. 

To help you build a large list of subscribers, I would suggest that you develop a newsletter where you can have several business that would pay you to put their banners or ads on it which can then be distributed to a large number of subscribers.  If someone clicks on the banner or ad, then you will get paid for that.  This is very similar to google adsense.

You can also set up agreements with some companies where you can receive a small percentage of the sales that they are generated from the subscribers from your list.

You can sell ebooks or manuals to your subscribers.  You can compile your articles to create an ebook or manual and sell that very easily.

You can give this information away as a free offer for signing up to your list to generate more subscriptions.  You may be able to generate a sale from them in the future.
